I love this time of year! In some magical way, everything seems exciting and new. And as the weather cools, here come the layers. Layers don’t only apply to fashion but transcend into design as well. It is easy to change the feel of your living environment by adding a few accessories and layering to give your space a warmer feel for the upcoming months. Fall and Winter dictate cashmere, wool, animal skins, etc… out of pure necessity. When “winterizing” your decor, a great go-to trick is layering an animal hair rug on top of a smooth or low-pile rug. I’m going to hit on one of my favorites that is more affordable than you might think, sheepskin rugs.
Sheepskin rugs come in all different sizes, colors and price points, so it is easy to add this to your shopping list no matter what the budget dictates.
For example, before my BAD, BAD dog, Bella, decided she would mark every sheepskin rug in the house, we had a beautiful white one in Pearson’s room and it looked amazing. Here are some examples of how sweet a sheepskin rug can look in a nursery (love the Eames rocker as well!):
The great thing about throwing a sheepskin rug in your mix is that it compliments virtually any style of decor…
Here are some sources for your sheepskin shopping:
- Ikea – I bought this small sheepskin rug to throw over the Victoria Ghost Chair at my desk. This rug is so inexpensive, it would be fab to buy multiples and use them outdoors on your patio furniture by the fire this time of year…
- Target – has multiple colors of faux sheepskin rugs and ivory and champagne real sheepskin rugs.
- Costco – this was my all-time best find! We purchased a couple of white ones last year (remember my BAD dog…), but this year, they had Chocolate as well!! It is a seasonal item, so GO NOW if you want one! They are 4’x6′ and run $125! Trust me, you can’t beat that and the quality is very good! (and Bella can’t get to it in the closet!)
- Horchow – of course, has a beautiful array of colors to choose from.
Fads come and go, but stability rules in layers. Any way you look at it, layers are always en Vogue so start with some sheepskin!
