So, I know all of you boys out there wonder what it is girls actually do when we have slumber parties in High School? Well, I’m gonna let you in on the secret!! Last night I was on a mission to find photos of my bedroom growing up. The only pictures I found were of my friends and me posing on my bed pre and post-makeup and hair. Yes… many, many makeovers and lots of chatter about boys! Absolutely hysterical! I’m not naming names so I hope my friends will forgive me for posting these! They are the only photos I could find of my childhood bedroom. Let’s start with this one…
WOW, this is embarrassing! Obviously I will do anything to raise money for Dwell With Dignity! You will notice the brass headboard and pink curtains. I believe the linens and drapes were all Benetton. And yes, that is a clip light on the headboard! Right over my big 80’s West Texas hair, you can see part of the big bulletin board.(Check out how I have already hooked my daughter up with her huge bulletin board here) A necessity for displaying what was important on any particular day in the life of a teenage girl. In the top right corner, you can see the “Mojo” sign I printed from my uncle’s dot matrix printer!!! (Shout out to my Permian High School peeps! Friday Night Lights, anyone?) Geez, I am really giving it all away here! And note that the bed is placed under the window. Now let’s continue down the path of humiliation…
So this is a pre-makeover pose on the bed. Notice the bed is now in the corner of the room. I also found some fabric or curtains or something and tacked it to the ceiling in an attempt to create a more luxurious canopy type of feel. I’m pretty sure I used thumb tacks to do it! What you can’t see in this picture is all of the ballet posters and shoes plastered all over the room. Many cans of hair spray later (and a few more holes in the ozone layer)… the after shot!
Same view of the room, but the photo is a hoot! The final photo I have to share was taken a few years later in college. I finally convinced my Mom to let me makeover my bedroom before I graduated from High School. This photo was shot when I was home on Christmas break from college and had some High School friends over to catch up.
I based the new color scheme off of the Matisse poster on the wall.
I asked my Mom if I could paint the room turquoise, but all I could squeeze out of her was a focal wall behind the bed. That wall is directly across from the window in the first photo. (I rearranged quite a bit and still do!) But if there were one thing I wish I had, it wouldn’t be anything pertaining to the decor, it would be more photos with my friends in my childhood room.
Anyway, I have so many wonderful memories in my childhood bedroom and hope that you will support Dwell With Dignity to provide the same opportunity to families in need.
