Have you ever been to the Texas Hill Country? If you have then you know what I’m talkin’ about and if you haven’t, well… you better get there as fast as you can! I wanted to recap a barrel room tour we took over Thanksgiving at Grape Creek Vineyards. “What does your love of wine have to do with design”, you ask? Well, I’m about to tell you!
The Texas Hill Country is rich with wonderful vineyards and wineries. Our awesome cousins have a river house right in the center of the Hill Country and took us to Grape Creek Vineyards for a tour of their barrel room. Our tour guide was describing how they use both American and French Oak Barrels to bring out different qualities in their wines when he threw out a cool little bit of info…
When they are finished using the barrels in the winemaking process, they sell them to a company called Barrel Designs. The crafty couple of Barrel Designs proceeds to make furniture and such from the used barrels and the vineyards buy them back in their beautifully recycled new form and sell them in their tasting rooms. Here are some shots I took from our tour:
I can’t imagine anything more beautiful against the background of some Austin stone. Love some Tuscany in Texas! So stay tuned for their next Petit Syrah (it’s going to be yummy!) and consider this fun recycled, green furniture for your wine loving space.
